Decoding the All-In Attack
There is nothing more terrifying than seeing a massive army approach your base at minute three. Therefore, your only goal is simply to survive the initial onslaught; you do not need to win the fight immediately. If you do not know the rush is coming, you will undoubtedly be crushed. Panic leads to terrible decisions, like canceling important upgrades or building the wrong units. From building placement to emergency micro-management, every detail matters.
Immediate Survival Tactics
Stop producing economic workers and immediately dump all resources into military units. Place your barracks and supply depots in a tight wall to block melee units. Towers deal high, consistent damage and cannot be easily focus-fired by early units. Do not engage the enemy army in the open field under any circumstances. However, a ruined economy is better than a destroyed town hall and a game over screen.
- Always repair your critical structures during the fight; do not let them fall.
- Use high-ground advantage if your base is located on a ramp or plateau.
- Killing the enemy leader will often break the morale of the attack and force a retreat.
- Proxy barracks cut down the enemy's reinforcement travel time to zero.
- Use the breathing room to re-establish your economy and secure a massive tech lead.
Handling Different Aggressions
A rush of fast, fragile infantry requires a very different defense than a rush of heavy armor. Single-target towers will simply be overwhelmed by the sheer number of targets. If the enemy is rushing with heavily armored early-game units, build armor-piercing defenses. Sometimes, the enemy will execute a 'tower rush,' building offensive turrets near your base.
| Aggressive Tactic | Visual Indicator | Defensive Response |
|---|---|---|
| The Horde | Multiple cheap production buildings; zero tech structures. | Wall off choke points entirely; build splash damage towers and fire traps. |
| The Proxy | Enemy main base is empty; no barracks found at their spawn. | Scout the perimeter of your own base; destroy the hidden buildings quickly. |
| Heavy Armor | Enemy rushes to a tier-two structure immediately; low unit count. | Build armor-piercing magic towers; use slowing effects to kite the heavy units. |
| The Tower Rush | An enemy worker is seen lingering aggressively near your natural expansion. | Pull 5-6 workers to kill the enemy builder immediately before the structure finishes. |
When you survive the rush, the rest of the game is usually an easy cleanup. Learn from their aggression and add those timings to your own mental database. You will not have time to figure out the geometry during an actual panic situation. When they see their entire army melt against your perfect defense, they often just quit. Now, fortify your base, keep your scouts active, and welcome the enemy assault.
